This is a large and complex artwork that began by creating odd symbols and petroglyphs using opaque white paint in white fabric. I didn’t have a direction in mind, but I’m attracted to the idea of petroglyphs used for storytelling, territory markers, and sacred symbols. The batik areas mixed with vibrant color began to create additional layers of meaning, and faces began to appear. I chose the title ‘Cypher’ because it can mean a secret code, a performance, or a disguise.
